Mothers everyday: Sarah's story

In celebration of Mother's Day, we invited our team members to share what 'mum' means to them. In this article, Sarah generously shares her experience of losing her mum and recounts some beautiful memories she has of her mother.

"Mother’s Day is a beautiful day celebrated by many, but for approx. 3.7 million Australian females who’ve lost their mum, it looks a little different and is commemorated in our own individual and unique way. I am acutely aware of all those, like me, who are living without their mum.

"My mum died when I was 20 and she was 48.

"Although she is no longer with me, when I think of her, I think of strength & resilience. Also, stubbornness, which I can 100% confirm is hereditary.

"Despite not being able to physically be with my Mum, I always cherish the memory of making her toast and a coffee every Mother’s Day so that she could enjoy breakfast in bed. I’m sure those coffees were 99% milk – but she never said a thing.

"Mum was such a caring and passionate person, no matter what else was going on, she would find a way to put others first. To me, a Mother means someone who simply loves unconditionally.

"I write this story, not only as an employee of Baby Bunting, but also as an Ambassador for Motherless Daughters Australia (MDA) and as an advocate for all women, girls and children whose Mums have died.

"If you need comfort or support this Mother's Day, MDA is an organisation that is here to help you feel less isolated and alone at this challenging time."
