What parents are saying

AI summary of customer 210 reviews

The product is generally well-received, with users praising its convenience, efficiency, and ease of use. Key benefits include a hands-free design for mobility, a simple 3-part construction for easy cleaning, powerful suction for effective milk extraction, quiet operation, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, some users have reported issues with the touch screen, milk spills, and limited visibility of the nipple position. While not entirely "hands-free" due to the attached tubing, the product is considered a significant improvement in the pumping experience for many mothers.

    Must have for breastfeeding mums

    by

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Medela Freestyle breast pump is an absolute game-changer for busy mums. While hospital-grade pumps offer raw power, they lock you down with heavy machinery and clunky tubing. This lightweight, pocket-sized pump slips right into your bra, giving you total freedom to multi-task or chase toddlers. Its suction performance is incredibly impressive for a wearable good suction pump. It efficiently empties the breasts while keeping you completely mobile. For a highly effective, comfortable pump that restores your independence, it easily beats being tethered to a wall.

    Issue

    by

I absolutely love this pump and always get the best output with it, which is why I keep coming back to this model. However, I’m disappointed with the battery/motor durability. This is already my second pump, and unfortunately both have had the same issue it shows full battery but suddenly turns off midway through pumping. I really hope the brand improves the battery life and motor quality because apart from that, it’s an amazing pump.

Without a doubt, the BEST pump I have ever had!

    by

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Medela Freestyle has completely changed the way I express! Not only freeing up my hands, but also saving me precious time, which is hard to come by these days. It’s incredibly easy to use, clean, and wear. The cups fit comfortably in my bra, and the pump itself is lightweight enough to pop into a pocket so I can move around freely. It’s also impressively quiet. I can use it without waking my baby, even while watching TV or listening to music. The charging is simple, and the battery life is excellent, which makes a huge difference day to day. Most importantly, I’ve had great success with milk output using this pump. I highly recommend it.

SAVE YOUR $ AVOID AT ALL COSTS

    by

AVOID @ ALL COSTS- Save Your Money Whilst the concept of hands free is great for mobility the execution of being ergonomic is very poor. -You cannot hold your infant whilst wearing such poorly designed hard plastic cups - If you are well endowed and on the larger bust size do not even bother buying this as trying to squeeze the small cups over your bigger breasts is extremely painful. - Leaking.. the cups even though clicked in as per instructions leak- nothing worse than already having a poor supply to then loose precious milk time and time again. You cannot bend/ lean over whilst expressing you must keep in an upright position otherwise you loose milk out of the top of cups an also out of the nipple suction hole. - Battery life.. is pathetic within the first week of use the device had a fault an could only be turned on by resetting the device every single time, it would then go from 100% fully charged to 0% in the matter of 10min the timer section would also not work. - Limited mobility.. whilst expressing. Hand piece has no screen lock out mode so if you bump the hand piece it stops working. $425 down the drain an a hungry baby unable to eat as express fed only Went back to an original medela swing maxi and milk supply 3x in production.

Easy to use & works a treat.

    by

Easy to use, works well. Nice to be hands free and wireless. With the tubing & lanyard machine, you aren’t free to do everything as normal but it’s exactly as expected and I’m very pleased. Extracts milk comfortably and efficiently.

    Terrible design

    by

Im a mum of twins and I pump every feed. This pump is a disaster. It is completely touch screen with no lock button so it is constantly turning off no matter what I do. It is also very loud, so its very indiscreet in public. The other major problem is the hole at the top of each collection cup. If I lean forward to attend to my baby or drive over a speed bump when my cups are getting full, it spills everywhere. The cups themselves are also pretty bulky so I can't wear them in most of my cloths. I would not recommend this pump at all.

    Terrible pump!

    by

I am not sure how these are still for sale since this is my second one and the touch screen hardly works. You will be trying to change settings during pumping and the screen is frozen so you have to turn it off and wait a few seconds then back on. Ridiculous considering the price. Also the opening at the top make it extremely hard to do anything while pumping since you can spill the milk. You also need big pockets for this pump to fit in so not sure how they call it portable. I do not recommend!

Wouldn't buy again - am about to take back for a full refund. First pump worked for a few weeks then the touch screen stopped working - couldn't change the suction and after having to turn off with the power button, upon restarting couldn't restart the pump. Highly frustrating halfway through a pump to then not be able to finish it. After thinking it was just a fault I returned the pump (which Baby Bunting were very good about) for a replacement. First day using the new pump and the same thing happened. Extremely frustrated and am now returning the whole lot. Way overpriced considering the faulty product. Definitely wouldn't buy again and has put me off the brand completely.

Who is designing these??? Lets be real

    by

There are some pros and cons to this model- but I'm still baffled by some design choices. Its a good pump- but there needs to be some commonsense improvements on Freestyle 2.0 Firstly, this is a good pump, comparable to my Spectra S1 in terms of output. The hands free cups are a good start. Plenty of levels for suction for different needs. Its SEMI portable (more on this in a minute) and I don't think anyone would be unhappy with its function. Cleaning is easy, the 3 parts is less fiddly and easier than other pumps. Leaks or lack of suction seem to be common complaints, but that is people making obvious errors when assembling and not a problem. Now to the stuff that really matters- FREESTYLE... be free? What is the point of this pump when there is NO clip to attach to a belt or pocket and the lanyard is so tiny that it makes me think of those phone sized clubbing purses from the early 2000s (= Useless). The pump, while small, is too large to go in most female pockets. So where is the freedom? Still gotta hold the thing in my hand or on the table next to be (listen to the vibrations!). - We need a decent sized lanyard that can be hung around the neck AND a decent clip so we can attached to our pants, pocket or top etc. The second thing that I struggle with is the display- its VERY touchy, so its easy to change the settings by accidently brushing up against the face of the pump. It really needs a display lock- maybe a slide button next to the power button which would lock the display. Lastly- the handsfree cups. Nice molded shape, but BULKY. I be looking like Pamela with these in. It would be great for them to release a streamlined cup- a smaller profile, even if it sacrifices mls. (150ml per cup is a bit of an overkill for those Mama's without an over supply 100ml per cup would be fine). Also silicone flanges and a better range of flange sizes (rather than inserts) would be awesome too- isn't the average/most used size like 17mm? Market research please! So in conclusion- this pump, while effective, isn't all that friendly to use and isn't much more portable than my Spectra S1. Considering the price, I would expect a little more from the designers and market researchers on the product as these flaws seem very obvious and should have been corrected before the product went on the shelves.

Great pump, terrible design for the flanges

    by

Recently bought this pump and the pump itself (ie the motor) works great. I like that it's touch screen and also has a timer so you can keep track of how long you have been pumping for. Very easy to use. I was quite disappointed with the actual hands free flanges though. I was using size 24mm (same as what I used in hospital), but unfortunately the shape of the flanges isn't designed great, so it basically pinched the end of my nipple only. It meant that it was extremely uncomfortable and wasn't very effective with my milk supply. I ended up buying the handheld attachments, which were thankfully able to be used with this pump. They are so much better and I'm still using 24mm. I really feel I would've given up on expressing if I had just kept the hands free ones due to how uncomfortable and frustrating they were to use.
