The Medela Calma Teat is for a mother looking for the optimal teat to feed her child breastmilk. That's why Medela Calma Teat is the ideal teat for babies who are being breastfed with breastmilk, as it allows them to suck, swallow and breathe, as learned on the breast.

What parents are saying
AI summary of customer 53 reviews
The teat mimics the natural sucking motion of breastfeeding, helping ease the transition between breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Many found their babies transitioned easily, with the controlled flow rate and requirement to actively suck reducing issues like gas, reflux, and overeating. However, some babies struggled to latch onto the teat or found the flow too slow, leading to frustration. The 3-piece design was also noted as more difficult to clean compared to traditional teats. Overall, the teat seems to work well for many breastfed babies, but may not be suitable for all infants.

Great newborn bottle
|
by Jessica T
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got recommended this bottle by my lactation consultant. My bub took it straight away from 7 days old and it was a breeze switching between breast feeding and bottle. The bottle is easy to clean and put back together. A bit pricey but worth it especially when they are newborn and still developing suck and latch.

Exclusively breastfed baby
|
by Lucy L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Calma teat worked really well for both my exclusively breastfed sons, the both took to it easily from birth without any fuss. The flow is controlled by bubs to mimic the breast so I was confident that they wouldn’t begin to prefer the bottle over breastfeeding. However my daughter wouldn’t take the bottle, no matter which teat we used so isn’t a fail proof teat.
If you plan to exclusively breastfeed but want baby will take a bottle every now and then, my advise is to start from birth or a few weeks old on a semi regular basis (weekly works for us).
The 3 part teat is slightly more annoying to clean compared to a traditional teat. And it is quite expensive also compared to other teats so would quickly become pricey if you needed to buy more than 1. But given I only use it on a casual basis, these factors haven’t concerned me.

Good for some babies
|
by Brissie Mum
This is a good teat for babies that are older and like a big flow of milk. My newborn at 2-3 weeks of age could not cope with the big flow once she was suckling. In fact at 2 months of age now she is still on the lowest flow teats. I thought this product would help to convince her to breastfeed (having to suckle) but paced bottle feeding turned out to be the best thing for getting her off the bottle and latching onto the nipple. With paced bottle feeding she had to work to get the milk out.

Not for us
|
by Antonia T
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought these for our baby when he was struggling to latch and I was pumping in the hope he’d start to figure it out. Unfortunately these just didn’t help at all. The constant attempts to help him latch just resulted in more and more failures. May work for some others but seemed to make our issues worse.

Awful bottle
|
by Abigail G
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given some of these by a friend of mine who finished bottle feeding and I tried it with my son, it was a dreadful experience. My son couldn’t get much milk, he was working so hard and getting barely any milk, he then gave up even though he was hungry. I never used it again and I do not recommend, worst bottle teat ever!

Great for mixed feeding
|
by Jen K
My lactation consultant recommended these to get my baby breastfeeding after 5 weeks of bottle feeding in NICU. Really happy that they worked and he is now mixed feeding. They feel like great quality compared to the teats we had been using.

Not as great as had hoped. Baby couldn’t grasp the concept and the tear is a hard plastic so isn’t it adult accepted and the whole on the feet is huge

Life saver
|
by Zoe L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This teat is a life saver! My baby wasn’t able to latch in the beginning and she would only take bottle. We bought this out of recommendation from our lactation consultants and my daughter took it straight away.
I like that she has to work and actually suck for milk to come out instead of other teats where it pours right into her mouth.
This product mimicked breastfeeding and it really helped my breastfeeding journey continue.
The only downside is you have to replace the teat after awhile as the silicone does start to wear down. There are a few times where milk spilled through and we had to get a new one as replacement.

Takes a few tries but it works
|
by MumOfOne1
It took a few tries before my baby would use the teat. The trick was to dip the teat in the breast milk before offering it to my baby's mouth. It slowed down her drinking pace and helped reduce the amount of milk being spat back up after feeding.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are the absolute best bottles for breastfeeding, and I have tried 4 other big brands. As a new mum, I've already made the mistake of buying bottles that aren't teat 1. I also didn't know you shouldn't mix different brand of bottles cos all the teats are different and baby has to learn to suck each one. I was told to buy certain brands by different people that were best for mixed breast feeding and formula feeding, and it wasn't til my son was born that I've quickly learnt about nipple confusion. He would take at least 10 mins to remember how to breastfeed every time i gave him a bottle. Then i found this brand, and ive put away all the other bottles and use only this one now and he easily breastfeeds as well as uses these for either express or formula and no issues with breastfeeding anymore. They are more expensive but this teat is q godsend, and its also so much easier that you can store express milk in the same bottles. I tried one and i now i have 7 of them. Best investment

Too hard
|
by Lauren L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this on the recommendation of a lactation Consultant as something that would prevent nipple refusal in my breastfeeding journey. No matter what I did I could not get my baby to drink from the bottle while using the calma. It is quite a hard plastic and takes alot of force to drink through.

Calma Teat
|
by Ajanes
This teat is amazing and I wasn’t sure you could buy them so when I saw them on a recent special I had to grab another one! It kind of dribbles the milk out like a boob and my baby took to it really easily which came in handy when I started pumping. Would recommend for breastmilk!

Teat for hard workers
|
by Mipo
Great product, purchased to avoid extra gas that I heard could be caused by teats that flow too fast and "nipple confusion". Baby will take it if he is calm but if he is stressed it's a no-go. We only use bottles occassionally so bought a regular teat in those cases. If he needed a bottle daily I'm sure there wouldn't be an issue.
