What parents are saying
AI summary of customer 33 reviews
The product received mixed reviews. Some found the teat difficult to clean and assemble, and that their babies struggled to get milk from the slow flow. However, others found the teat helpful for transitioning between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, as it mimics the breast and requires the baby to work for the milk, which helped reduce gas and spitting up. The product may be better suited for younger infants.

Great newborn bottle
|
by Jessica T
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got recommended this bottle by my lactation consultant. My bub took it straight away from 7 days old and it was a breeze switching between breast feeding and bottle. The bottle is easy to clean and put back together. A bit pricey but worth it especially when they are newborn and still developing suck and latch.

Exclusively breastfed baby
|
by Lucy L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Calma teat worked really well for both my exclusively breastfed sons, the both took to it easily from birth without any fuss. The flow is controlled by bubs to mimic the breast so I was confident that they wouldn’t begin to prefer the bottle over breastfeeding. However my daughter wouldn’t take the bottle, no matter which teat we used so isn’t a fail proof teat.
If you plan to exclusively breastfeed but want baby will take a bottle every now and then, my advise is to start from birth or a few weeks old on a semi regular basis (weekly works for us).
The 3 part teat is slightly more annoying to clean compared to a traditional teat. And it is quite expensive also compared to other teats so would quickly become pricey if you needed to buy more than 1. But given I only use it on a casual basis, these factors haven’t concerned me.

Not for everyone
|
by Maree H
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was recommended this bottle by a midwife in hospital when I began my breast feeding journey as she advised it would help to switch between bottle and breast as the baby would have to work to get the milk out.
Unfortunately my baby did not like it, nor did I!
I found that a lot of milk continued to come out after and she ended up making a mess and eating faster than another brand of bottle I had tried.
I found the price point to be very expensive so if we did want to use these bottles I would have had to fork out quite a bit of money just for a few. I am glad we only bought 1 to try to start out with, that would be my recommendation for anyone wanting to try (just purchase one).

Not for us
|
by Antonia T
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought these for our baby when he was struggling to latch and I was pumping in the hope he’d start to figure it out. Unfortunately these just didn’t help at all. The constant attempts to help him latch just resulted in more and more failures. May work for some others but seemed to make our issues worse.

Awful bottle
|
by Abigail G
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given some of these by a friend of mine who finished bottle feeding and I tried it with my son, it was a dreadful experience. My son couldn’t get much milk, he was working so hard and getting barely any milk, he then gave up even though he was hungry. I never used it again and I do not recommend, worst bottle teat ever!

Terrible bottle
|
by Abigail G
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given some of these from a friend of mine who used them with her son and I absolutely hated them. Worst bottles ever. My son wasn’t able to suck much out, he got tired and gave up. I like the idea in theory but my son just couldn’t do it - the flow was just too slow - too much effort for limited gain.

Life saver
|
by Zoe L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This teat is a life saver! My baby wasn’t able to latch in the beginning and she would only take bottle. We bought this out of recommendation from our lactation consultants and my daughter took it straight away.
I like that she has to work and actually suck for milk to come out instead of other teats where it pours right into her mouth.
This product mimicked breastfeeding and it really helped my breastfeeding journey continue.
The only downside is you have to replace the teat after awhile as the silicone does start to wear down. There are a few times where milk spilled through and we had to get a new one as replacement.

Godsend

by Chantel S
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are the absolute best bottles for breastfeeding, and I have tried 4 other big brands. As a new mum, I've already made the mistake of buying bottles that aren't teat 1. I also didn't know you shouldn't mix different brand of bottles cos all the teats are different and baby has to learn to suck each one. I was told to buy certain brands by different people that were best for mixed breast feeding and formula feeding, and it wasn't til my son was born that I've quickly learnt about nipple confusion. He would take at least 10 mins to remember how to breastfeed every time i gave him a bottle. Then i found this brand, and ive put away all the other bottles and use only this one now and he easily breastfeeds as well as uses these for either express or formula and no issues with breastfeeding anymore. They are more expensive but this teat is q godsend, and its also so much easier that you can store express milk in the same bottles. I tried one and i now i have 7 of them. Best investment

Too hard
|
by Lauren L
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this on the recommendation of a lactation Consultant as something that would prevent nipple refusal in my breastfeeding journey. No matter what I did I could not get my baby to drink from the bottle while using the calma. It is quite a hard plastic and takes alot of force to drink through.

Very disappointed with this product, continues to leak from the teat and all the Medela Calma tests appear to be different, some with a fast release and others with a slow release.. very frustrating.

Great to combine with breastfeeding, no confusion and helps with the training of the suction movement in newborn. Unfortunately the teat often leaks. 4 parts to clean isn't ideal.

Slim bottle with calma teat
|
by Christina J
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the slim design of this bottle. It made storage in the fridge and nappy bag easy as some wider bottles do not fit snuggly. This bottle is a great capacity for when your child is drinking more but you still want to use the Calma teat. I did find the cleaning and assembling the teat quite tedious.

Best test we have tried
|
by Hannah H
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sooooo good to used for too ups/combifeeding when breastfeeding. It slows Bub right down to feed and reduces gas
in his tummy. He accepted it without issue from birth. Downside is the cleaning is slightly more complicated as the teat is 3 parts! It has little valves in it which means it is the same mechanism to drink from as the breast

Product Details
Calma uniquely delivers milk to the baby only when a vacuum is created, and stops the flow when the baby relaxes to pause and breathe. Thus the baby's natural feeding behaviour can be maintained With Calma, the innovative feeding solution for breastmilk, baby uses the feeding behaviour learned at mother's breast. Using Calma makes switching from breast to bottle and back again easy. Every baby develops an individual and specific feeding behaviour whilst on the breast. During breastfeeding, a baby sucks, pauses and breathes in his own rhythm. Milk flows best, when baby creates a vacuum. But conventional bottle-feeding technique is different from breastfeeding and finding the right solution to feed expressed breastmilk can be a challenge.
