Road safety laws: You acknowledge that the information that you have provided about the age of the child who will use the car seat to be installed is correct. Among other things, the New Zealand road safety rules specify age limits that regulate the use of car seats by children. Use of the incorrect car seat by children, can result in parents or carers receiving penalties under relevant state road safety legislation. Baby Bunting NZ Limited and its employees, officers and agents accept no liability for any claim, loss, damage, cost or expense that you may incur as a result of children using a car seat that cannot lawfully be used by that child under New Zealand road safety laws.

Our guidelines for car seat installation

For your peace of mind, and for your child’s safety, Baby Bunting and our child restraint technicians have adopted the following installation guidelines:

Rear-Facing

  • A rear-facing child restraint increases your child’s safety.
  • We believe that children should be in a rear-facing child restraint for as long as possible, at least until 2 years of age, but longer if the seat’s limits allow.
  • Ideally, a child should be kept rear-facing until they have reached the rear-facing limits of the restraint they are in. It may be possible to have your child rear-facing until 4-6 years of age or older.
  • If the restraint doesn’t allow the child to rear-face until at least 2 years old, we recommend moving them to another seat which allows them to rear-face for longer.

Forward-Facing

  • We recommend that a child travel in a forward-facing restraint with an internal harness for as long as possible. This may be beyond toddler and into school years.
  • Check our Booster 5 Step Test to see if it’s safe for your child to move into a booster seat.

Boosters

  • We recommend that a child stays in a booster until they are at least 148cm even if they are 7 years or older.
  • Only switch to the adult vehicle belt if it fits the child safely.

Check our 5 Step Test to see if your child can travel safely without a booster

Please arrive early: To ensure we can provide you and every customer with great customer service we request you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. If you are delayed and have not arrived by your scheduled appointment time, our car seat installer may not be able to carry out your installation. While we will try and accommodate you, due to demand, the next available installation appointment may not be on the same day.

Extreme weather: Most car seat installations occur in car parks adjacent to Baby Bunting stores. For the safety of customers, their children and our Team Members, Baby Bunting has extreme weather guidelines that apply to car seat installation services. In the event of extreme heat or cold, storms or other inclement weather which may make installing a car seat unsafe, your appointment may be postponed by Baby Bunting to a later time. As far as practicable, Baby Bunting will attempt to contact you in advance of your scheduled appointment if the extreme weather guidelines applies. If your appointment needs to be rescheduled, Baby Bunting will try and reschedule it to the next available appointment time.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions: Proper installation of car seats is only one part of ensuring that car seats operate optimally. You should always use car seats in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and regularly check the car seat to ensure that it continues to be firmly installed.
